The reason behind this special getaway is to raise funds for our dear friend Rachel. Rachel has been battling ALS, and it’s heartbreaking to witness her struggles. After losing her grandmother, mother, uncle, and younger brother to ALS, Rachel has now been diagnosed with the same rare genetic variant of this devastating disease. ALS, also known as Lou Gehrig’s Disease, is a progressive nervous system disorder that gradually weakens muscles and affects physical function.
Rachel has been facing challenges with swallowing, making it difficult for her to eat. To help her stay nourished, she’s undergoing surgery to install a surgical feeding tube. Her speech has also been affected, making it hard for her to articulate words and project her voice. As her symptoms worsen, there’s a possibility that she may lose the ability to walk, talk, and move her own body. Construction to make her bathroom fully accessible is currently underway, starting in November.
We’re passionate about raising funds to help cover the additional expenses that Rachel and her family will face in the future.
